SSAA Scottsdale

Notice:

From 1 Nov 2024 to 25 Jan 2025, SSAA Scottsdale successfully completed a project to replace our 16 existing wooden benches with 16 concrete shooting benches. The project involved the hard work of a small team of dedicated club volunteers who worked tirelessly through the Christmas break to make this happen. We now have 16 brand new concrete benches, providing extremely stable shooting positions.

The total cost of the project was $10,000, equally shared between the club and Dorset Council. The Council provided a matching grant of $5,000 to finance the project. On behalf of SSAA Scottsdale, I would like to thank Dorset Council for the financial assistance that was crucial to the project’s success. In particular, I extend my gratitude to Elizabeth Hadley, the Development Officer at Dorset Council, who advised us throughout the project on all aspects related to the grants process.

Welcome to 2026 – Continuing to Improve and Modernise

A new year begins, and as we step into 2026, we’re proud to continue building on the good work achieved over the past year. Our commitment remains the same: to modernise our facilities, improve member experience, and ensure our range operates to the highest possible standard.

Projects Currently Underway

We have several exciting upgrades in progress:

  • Solar Power Installation – We are installing a solar power system to supply our new automated speaker system. This initiative supports both sustainability and reliability, ensuring clear communication across the range while reducing our environmental footprint.
  • New Automated Speaker System – Designed to enhance safety and clarity, the new system will provide consistent and precise announcements across all areas.
  • Accurate Placement of New Range Distance Markers – Our updated distance markers are being carefully measured and positioned to ensure absolute accuracy for all disciplines and training requirements.

These improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to providing a safe, modern, and professional facility for all members.

New Members Welcome

We are always pleased to welcome new members to our community.

An 8:30 am orientation session is held for all prospective members and visitors. This session provides an overview of range procedures, safety expectations, and membership information. We encourage anyone interested to attend and learn more about what we offer.

Gallery Update

Photos of the new benches are now available in the Gallery section below. Be sure to take a look at the latest additions and improvements to our facilities.

This can be done by filling out our secure online Range Attendance Register.  This should take no more than two minutes to complete and will  assist the committee in planning for the day and allocating resources (benches, RO etc). Please Note:  Registration is mandatory for every range shoot.  If  necessary, bench space will be allocated to those members who have registered, on a first come – first served basis.
Please have your attendance registration in by 12 noon on the Friday or earlier before the shoot in order to allow time for the committee to plan ahead.

Competitions

The club runs precision rifle (PR), precision rimfire (PR22) and pistol competitions on separate range days. Please note that from 1330 on competition days, with the exception of the competition area, the remainder of the range is CLOSED.  Please check the Shooting Schedule for details.  Courses of fire (COF) as well as rules, equipment requirements etc for all disciplines are posted to the ‘Events’ tab (below), the week before the competition weekend.  Competition results and photos are normally posted 1-2 days after the event.

Empty Chamber Indicators. (ECI) are now mandatory for all firearms at SSAA Scottsdale. The use of an ECI removes the need for an RO to physically look inside the chamber of your firearm  thereby removing the need for the RO to be in close physical proximity to you.  The club has purchased spare centrefire and rimfire ECI.  These are available for sale to shooters for $5.00 available from the SRO box at Scottsdale Range.
